London Underground turns 160

The first part of the London Underground, from Paddington to Farringdon via Baker Street and King’s Cross, opened on this day in 1863.

The first trains were steam-powered and smoke used to fill the tunnels. No matter how frustrating it can be today, at least things have moved on from that!!

Christmas Tree recycling

Recylcing symbol drawn from Christmas trees.

It’s free and easy to recycle your real Christmas tree so it gets composted .

Camden’s Christmas tree recycling points will be open across the borough from 3 – 15 January 2023. Please remember to remove any decorations from your tree.

Dumping your Christmas tree on the street is illegal and if you’re caught you could receive a £400 on-the-spot fine for fly-tipping. It also makes it difficult for people to get by safely.
