The Open House Festival is a two-week celebration of London’s architecture, housing and neighbourhoods. There are walking tours (both with guides and self-guided), visits to notable and interesting buildings, exhibitions and presentations (including online), and more.

The locations are all over London, from Orpington to Uxbridge, and Sutton to Waltham Cross. Of course there are plenty of things to do within Camden as well! Some places need to be pre-booked, others you can just drop in.

A random few locations in Camden are:

  • West Hampstead Fire Station
  • Lawn Road Flats, Belsize Park (Grade I listed residential block)
  • Fitzroy Park Allotments, Highgate
  • Brandon Centre, Kentish Town
  • The Standard Hotel (former Camden Town Hall annexe), Kings Cross
  • Meta (Facebook) Offices, Kings Cross
  • St Pancras Chambers and clock tower

It is running from Thursday 08 September until Wednesday 22 September.

So explore London!

The London Festival of Architecture has launched a design competition for an installation to be installed on Phoenix Road in Somers Town for July 2022.

Phoenix Road runs through the middle of Somers Town, linking Euston Station and St Pancras Station. It is the focus of an HS2-funded project called Greening Phoenix Road which aims to make it a more attractive link.

HS2 in Euston Update – December 2021

The following works are coming up in Euston, as given by HS2:

Demolition works to One Euston Square and Grant Thornton House Buildings, ongoing until July 2022
We completed a trial closure of access between Euston station piazza and western colonnade (where Sainsbury’s and Café Nero are) in September 2021. This has allowed us to determine if pedestrian movement through the station and the surrounding areas is acceptable. From mid-December 2021 we will permanently close this external route and put an alternative pedestrian route in place via the station and we’ll be constructing a step free access within the same area.

This includes the removal of basement retaining walls, pile caps, piles, and redundant petrol tanks. The current footpath and hoarding will need to be re-aligned. This work is expected to continue until late 2022.

The Ultra Low Emission Zone is expanding

Picture of Car Exhaust

If you own a car, you will be aware of the Ultra Low Emission Zone, a measure to reduce air pollution in central London by charging daily for driving a polluting vehicle inside the zone.

Before it was only within the Congestion Charging Zone (so only Holborn was inside the zone), but now it has been expanded out to the North Circular and the South Circular, including the whole of the Borough. So if you have an older car, you may need to start paying the new charge.

For more information, see the TfL website:
