Reports in the news indicate that Argent, the developer of the King’s Cross precinct, is using facial recognition technology in the King’s Cross area. This potentially covers all areas developed over the last few years including Granary Square, Coal Drops Yard, office buildings occupied by Facebook, Google and Camden Council, as well as the many residential buildings. Details of exactly where and how it is being used are unknown at the moment.

Concerns have been raised as to how the indiscriminate use of facial recognition technology in a public area complies with people’s rights to privacy and under data protection regulations.
